YUSU By-Election

We are pleased to announce the By-Elections for YUSU Officer and Non Officer roles 2018.

The By-Elections are being held for the positions where no candidates stood for election or where students voted to Re Open Nominations (R.O.N).

Positions Available

The following positions are available to stand for in the By-Elections.

International Students' Officer

Represents international students and encourages their participation in wider YUSU and University activities. The International Students’ Officers represent 20% of the student population. They hold drop ins, support international events and ensure that international students get the fairest deal while studying at York.

Achievements of the International Officers:

  • Developing a representation network feeding back to the Deputy Vice Chancellor on international strategy.

  • Hosted popular weekly drop ins to help international students raise concerns and navigate studying in the UK.

  • Won multiple funding bids from YUFund to promote Global Week, York’s premier international cultural showcase.

Volunteering Officer

Develops opportunities for students to become involved in volunteering. YUSU Volunteering Officers facilitate a wide range of opportunities to volunteer and support a whole range of projects. From one off events to longer term opportunities, the Volunteering Officers are at the heart of developing an inclusive and strong campus community.

Achievements of the Volunteering Officers:

  • Setting up ‘Make a Difference’ or ‘MAD’ days, one off opportunities for students to take part in volunteering activities with local groups.  

  • Organising Volunteering celebration events to promote the work done by volunteers.

  • Organised volunteer fairs in order for students to meet volunteer groups in an easy and accessible setting.

Faculty Rep (Arts and Humanities)

Faculty Reps work behind the scenes, sitting on some of the highest-level committees to shape and influence University-wide decisions. As a Faculty Rep you will champion student feedback on teaching and learning and have an opportunity to make positive changes for students.

As part of the Academic Representation Network you are supported by over 450 Reps and the Student Engagement Team at YUSU. Faculty Reps can have a huge impact and the experience gained in the role is great for both personal and professional development.

Achievements of the Faculty Reps:

  • Successfully worked with Senate to find a better solution for governance and ownership of joint degrees.

  • Collected a huge amount of student opinion on open access to alternate module content - this will be taken to the University soon.

Faculty Rep (Social Sciences)

Please submit your manifesto to elections@yusu.org by noon on Friday 9th March.

You will be required to have a photograph taken to participate in the election. Photos will be taken at the start of the Candidate Info Session. If you are unable to make the Candidate Info Session please email elections@yusu.org to make alternative arrangements.
