Manifesto

LGBTQ Officer – Rowen Ellis Hello!

My name is Rowen, I use he/him/his pronouns and I am running to be the LGBTQ Officer for the 2017 – 2018 academic year. I have been a member of the LGBTQ Network here at York since September 2015, during which time I have served as both Queer and Transgender Convener, worked on multiple campaigns such as Transgender Awareness Week 2016, facilitated workshops with other campus networks and societies, and have worked with off-campus LGBTQ groups such as the York LGBTQ Forum.

If elected LGBTQ officer I wish to build on the network’s current work and to focus my efforts on the following causes:

  • Creating an inclusive and safe environment for LGBTQ students here at York
    • Improving the BAME, disabled and international student presence within the LGBTQ Network
    • Improving the presence of Heslington East students within the network
  • Representing a wide array of LGBTQ identities within the student union
    • Continuing membership of and facilitating communication between our various subnetworks for specific LGBTQ identities
  • Improving communication between the student body, officers and YUSU
  • Continuing our relationship with off campus LGBTQ groups such as the York LGBTQ Forum and the NUS LGBT+ campaign

If I elected I will draw upon my past experience in campaigning for LGBTQ youth and students to have a bigger impact and make a real difference for LGBTQ students at the University of York.
